How to Break Down a Box

A little “how to” courtesy Riley and Quinn. I asked Quinn to break down a box in order to put it into the recycling. The running joke in our family is consistent and never gets old (“Kevin, can you break down that box?” “Sure. Stupid box, stupid stupid box”). Think about it.

Anyway, Quinn had some trouble and soon went running for his souvenir Louisville Slugger. Next thing I knew Riley had joined him in the back yard and sporting a play sword. I think you can agree the boys did an effective job of “breaking down” the box. Literally and figuratively.

Thanksgiving in Capitola

Julie and I traveled to Capitola with my parents for Thanksgiving lunch at Shadowbrook restaurant. Our kids were with Julie’s parents at Disneyland.

We had a great lunch and then took a short walk along the beach and pier where we met several interesting birds including a very spirited pelican.

Trip to Military Vehicle Technology Foundation

This is a great place over in Portola Valley. The facility has over 250 military vehicles including tanks, armored cars, artillery units, and other vehicles. It’s incredible. Apparently, the owner, Jaques Littlefield, was sort of a military nut and apparently wealthy enough to allow him to procure his own armada. Littlefield has passed away but the facility remains in operation and does tours by appointment. I took Riley and Quinn today with Riley’s Scout troop.

Waiting Room Fun

Quinn and I were in a waiting room today, and we spent the time in different ways. I read the Steve Jobs book, while Quinn spent time making photos with the iPhone app called Kitty Carnage.

Halloween Traditions

We visited Perry Farm over in Ardenwood today to get some pumpkins. They have all the traditional fun things we like going here for, including the mountain of straw, a small hay maze and some displays.

Unfortunately what they didn’t have was good pumpkins. So we left empty handed.

Disneyland Trip

Here are some of the better photos from our trip to Disneyland last weekend. Notable is that some of these are from my new iPhone 4S and comparing them to my Canon DigitalElf camera they are essentially indistinguishable.

Appearance at JiveWorld Mainstage

Last week I was in Las Vegas for the JiveWorld 11 conference, put on by Jive Software (we use their social business platform for an employee community at work). I was recently added to Jive’s “Jive Champions” program of customer advocates, and in addition to appearing as a “speaker” on a panel discussion of Champions, Jive also had a few of us do some speaker introductions on their Mainstage presentation area.

These photos of are me along with Tim O’Connor from Ashworth College. Tim got to tell people about the upcoming events for the rest of the day, and I spoke about the dinner program later that evening. Lots of fun to see yourself on the big screen and in the middle of a giant conference hall with over 1000 attendees.

The Joy of Disneyland

There’s something amazing about the joy on a kid’s face when they experience the magic of Disneyland. Here are some of the best shots from our trips in April and August of this year.

Petco’s “Pride?”

Sometimes the joke just writes itself… From the Union City, CA Petco location comes this gem.
