Early November comes and means it is time for an annual tradition here on the Kevdo.com blog to start thinking about the Song of Year award. As in year’s past there are some songs that are definitely breaking out from the pack and based on my playcount in iTunes and just plain old gut feeling one of these three songs will be the song of the year.
Foster the People “Houdini (RAC remix)”
Don’t look for this on the album (which is quite good). It was a promo single that was issued on the Foster the People website and it’s far superior to the album version.
Evanescence “What You Want”
A strong entry from the group’s third album. Nice to see Amy Lee and co. haven’t gone soft… Â This song has such an epic feel.
The Black Keys “Lonely Boy”
This song was just released but is clearly in the mix. The music video is hypnotic even with the low-budget aesthetic . I didn’t love the group’s last album, aside from their breakthrough hit “Tighten Up” but if this lead single is any indication their new album coming in December might be worth a listen.
I took Quinn out trick or treating tonight. Riley decided he would stay at home and Julie stayed home too. But I did bring our dog Maya, who was dressed as a banana split.
Here is Quinn dressed as a Wizard. We were out for over an hour but Quinn’s legs were getting tired so we came home.
This is a great place over in Portola Valley. The facility has over 250 military vehicles including tanks, armored cars, artillery units, and other vehicles. It’s incredible. Apparently, the owner, Jaques Littlefield, was sort of a military nut and apparently wealthy enough to allow him to procure his own armada. Littlefield has passed away but the facility remains in operation and does tours by appointment. I took Riley and Quinn today with Riley’s Scout troop.
Quinn and I were in a waiting room today, and we spent the time in different ways. I read the Steve Jobs book, while Quinn spent time making photos with the iPhone app called Kitty Carnage.
We visited Perry Farm over in Ardenwood today to get some pumpkins. They have all the traditional fun things we like going here for, including the mountain of straw, a small hay maze and some displays.
Unfortunately what they didn’t have was good pumpkins. So we left empty handed.
Here are some of the better photos from our trip to Disneyland last weekend. Notable is that some of these are from my new iPhone 4S and comparing them to my Canon DigitalElf camera they are essentially indistinguishable.

Last week I was in Las Vegas for the JiveWorld 11 conference, put on by Jive Software (we use their social business platform for an employee community at work). I was recently added to Jive’s “Jive Champions” program of customer advocates, and in addition to appearing as a “speaker” on a panel discussion of Champions, Jive also had a few of us do some speaker introductions on their Mainstage presentation area.
These photos of are me along with Tim O’Connor from Ashworth College. Tim got to tell people about the upcoming events for the rest of the day, and I spoke about the dinner program later that evening. Lots of fun to see yourself on the big screen and in the middle of a giant conference hall with over 1000 attendees.
There’s something amazing about the joy on a kid’s face when they experience the magic of Disneyland. Here are some of the best shots from our trips in April and August of this year.

A minor bit of handiwork to transform my official San Francisco Giants “Beat LA” shirt into one appropriate for today’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Â Beat AZ! Beat AZ!
